Last Friday I went on a photo walk. Doesn’t that seem like a perfectly normal sentence for a photographer? I went on a photowalk. But you see, I had never really been on a photo walk. I have gotten together with friends to take photos. But this would be my first official photo walk. Ever.

I was nervous. I have no idea why. But there were many, many times I tried to talk myself out of going. You see I tried to get people I knew to go with me. But as always with children and life things just got in the way. I saw a friendly face on the list of people but with 150ish people signed up I doubted I would find him, so I again tried to talk myself out of it. But I didn’t. I decided I needed to be there. I needed to kick my fear and walk out on a limb. So I went. And as luck would have it as I was parking the one person I knew was getting out of his car.

I was so very surprised to see the host Trey Ratcliff making his way through the crowd introducing himself. What a refresher. Still referring back to a not-to-be-named photo conference where the speakers seemed to be treated so very superior to the attendees. This guy was making it a point to say hello and ask peoples names.

.

I can sum the walk up quickly. It was awesome. There were around 200 photographers and I only knew of a handful. It really puts into prospective how many photographers there are out there. And that is really my point today.

Learn as much as you can. I was able to take SO much back with me to my portrait business from this non-person photo walk!
