Let’s Hear It for the Girls | I Heart Faces, May 2014

Let’s here it for the girls. This monthly theme for I Heart Faces is pretty perfect. The image I want to share really doesn’t tell the history behind the how the image was made. When I started really wanting to pursue photography as a business I joined a local photography forum. The people at that forum were incredibly harsh and would tear you down in a heartbeat. I understand now why, we start off thinking we know how to make an image. We think that we break the ‘rules’ because we are artistic and not because we don’t even know why the rules are even rules. When you are starting off it is true the pictures that you make will most likely stink. They will stink until you decide to work towards not stinking. So I decided to rarely go back to this forum, I needed a place where I could safely learn. I stumbled upon a little blog on blogspot called I Heart Faces. At the time there were weekly challenges and editing challenges. It was fantastic. Then I noticed there was  a forum. I was hesitant at first, I didn’t want to be at a place that was mean. But I joined anyway. I am so very thankful that I did. The support that the other photographers gave there was amazing. And one day I noticed a few local photographers were starting a group to learn and get to know each other. This group of ladies has grown into friends. These women are supportive. They are wonderful women who can laugh together, learn together, argue about photography together, and be supportive when one of us needs support. We have gone to conference together (recently three of us traveled to St. Louis together!) And it started with a little post on the I Heart Faces website.

Now to this little image. You see we try to get together and grow in our photography. So what better way to grow as photographers than to shoot together! This time it is our daughters who got to play together.

Many thanks to the many ladies who share my love for photography!
