The world of photography has produced some amazing images. I know some photographers who are amazing at taking the normal moment and turning it into art. I love that about photography. Another part of photography that I love is the everyday snapshot. Those photos that you take because you want to remember moments in your kiddos lives. Thankfully these days we have Instagram and cell phones with some of the greatest little cameras to capture these daily moments.

Monday for my kiddos was Fair Day. That glorious day that teachers and students are off work to go to the Fair. We don’t really live in the old fashion fair world. We don’t have livestock that we are going to show. We don’t have pies in the baking contest or a great photo entered. The joy of the fair thankfully lives on in our schools due mostly in part (I believe) to proximity to the Fair. But I am so glad. The rides, the midway, the games, the exhibits, the food… oh the food. It is a symbol of the beginning of Fall for me. (even though it was 86 degrees outside)

Each year I usually bring my camera with me. I love bringing my camera everywhere. But this year I decided to just bring my baby camera. My little point and shoot. I wanted to be able to zip it up and ride a ride if I wanted to. (I didn’t want to but that’s another story – no rides for this chicken momma) I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get any fun shots of the kids. But looking through the photos on Monday evening I noticed something that I loved. They were all beautiful snapshots. Snapshots of my little families love for each other. Our fun time together at the fair. The little faces of happiness at winning a stuffed animal. The joys of my favorite three people riding the ferris wheel. There aren’t any award winning photographs in the bunch. Nothing that screams wow, she is an amazing photographer. Nope. Not one. But there are SO many photographs that show that I am a momma who loves her kids. There are bunches of photographs that show my kids love for each other as they navigated the State Fair of Texas. The moments of sitting in front of Big Tex for the obligatory Big Tex Shot 😉

This morning Sophie was looking at the photos with me and telling me about her memories of those moments. She doesn’t care if they are photographs worth of praise because to her they are. They are their moments. Their memories. These are the images that I hope Scott and I look back on with our grandchildren and talk about the fun we had and how I am still too scared to ride the ferris wheel.

So todays tip… take photographs all the time… Save those memories for your babies!
