What 3 Habits will help your newborn photography?
So as y’all know this list is not the end all, be all. But it will help.
1. Keep it WARM
The main trouble in newborn photography is warmth. If a baby isn’t warm enough they will let you know. They will not settle down. Their skin will show you too. Have you ever seen a chilly baby? Their skin becomes a little patchy. This habit will improve almost any newborn session. Now, I do NOT recommend heating pads or blankets under prop blankets because you can not regulate the heat. I do recommend a heater at a safe distance away from the baby. I also only recommend heaters that are cool touch. It will be hot for you in the room, but you will tell a difference when the baby is comfortable.
2. Keep them Full
Well, full of milk I mean. A full baby is a happy baby. Does this mean they may eat more than normal? YES! This is not the day to stick to a rigid schedule if nursing. They most likely haven’t been moving around like this any other day, so they may need to nurse more. And that is ok. But be cautious. Full bellies sometimes have big deposits at the other end.
3. Say no to Gas
If babies aren’t settling on their tummies, give them a little burp. They may have a little gas in their bellies. In my career some babies just don’t like certain poses. That is ok too.
