This Memorial Day weekend Scott and I took our little one, Sophie, to visit a local church run firework event. We didn’t leave our son out, he was sick and decided to stay home with Nana instead. The one on one time with her was fun. And the fireworks show was fabulous! Now I am not one to be embarrassed easily. Really, it takes a lot to embarrass me. I brought my tripod along because I have really wanted to get a good firework shot. So there I am walking around with my tripod and feeling like people were looking at me. They weren’t but still. I felt a little silly until we got to our spots and I set everything up and we waited. It started to rain, but we brought an umbrella with us. So Scott and Sophie were hanging out in the sprinkles while me and my camera were under the umbrella. He loves me 😉

I had read lots about shooting fireworks. I just never felt that I got a decent shot. I wasn’t trying for a good shot, but a nice decent shot would work for me. One of the tutorials said to use a remote and shoot in bulb mode. Honestly I don’t think I have ever shot in bulb mode before. It was fantastic. Though my remote stuck a few times I really am pleased with how it turned out.

Now I will add that this was a little different because of the added light show. I can not wait until the 4th of July to try some without a light show 😉

All of these were shot with my mkiii and 24-70 lens, on a tripod, with a remote.
aperture of 5.6, ISO 100 and bulb mode.
I usually tried for between 3-5 seconds. Or at least that is what my metadata says 😉

and the last shots of Sophie were shots in the dark at 20,000 ISO. I love my camera!
