Let’s be honest—all babies are adorable. But when you add something personal to your newborn session? That’s a cherry on top.
Whether it’s a blanket from grandma or something that shows off your family’s personality, bringing props to your session isn’t just adorable—props help tell your story. Here are a few of my top 5 favorite things families have brought to their newborn photography sessions (and yes, a few of them have made me tear up behind the camera).
1. A Blanket With a Story
Maybe it’s handmade by a great-grandma. Maybe it’s the same one your older kiddo was wrapped in. I love weaving these little heirlooms into your session—literally and emotionally. Bonus: they look beautiful in the final gallery.
2. Name Signs or Monogrammed Goodies
Bringing a little wooden name sign or monogrammed swaddle is a simple way to personalize your photos. It’s sweet, custom, and gives you a perfect “announcement-ready” photo.
3. Sports Stuff (Yes, the Glove Counts!)
If your family loves sports—or anything really—bring it. Baseball gloves, helmets, jerseys, even tiny sneakers. It’s one of the best ways to capture your family’s personality in those early days.
4. Something that Represents You
There’s something about interesting about items in your life that represent you. And they can be anything. I once had some fantastic clients bring tomatoes, because their business life included working in produce!
5. Books or Nursery Items
A favorite bedtime book or something from the nursery shelf makes a great (and easy) addition. It helps tie the session back to your baby’s space—and the life you’re building together.
In the end..
You don’t have to bring anything to your session—but if there’s something meaningful that makes you smile, I say bring it. If there are certain colors that you like better than others. I’m always happy to help you figure out what might work best for your setup and vibe. Let’s make this newborn session feel like you.
