Let’s talk about one of the biggest worries parents have before a newborn session but the worry most never actually ask me about.
“What if my baby won’t sleep?”
Honestly? They probably won’t sleep the entire time.
We often imagine that every newborn photo they see is of a baby who slept perfectly the entire time. The reality, babies are going to baby. Some sleep. Some don’t. Some do both. And sometimes they decide that today is the day they are absolutely not going to miss a thing.
The good news is that I don’t need a perfect sleep to create beautiful images.
Over the years, the amount of babies I’ve photographed in my studio I have seen it all. I’ve worked with babies who slept for three hours straight and babies who seemed a little offended by the idea of closing their eyes. They fought sleep like it was their job that day.
Newborn sessions are intentionally relaxed. We stop to feed. We stop to cuddle. We stop because babies make the rules and honestly, they don’t care what we had planned. That is why I treat my babies as they are the only ones who matter. And it’s true, they are. We take our time.
So if you’re sitting at home stressing because your baby isn’t a great sleeper, please don’t.
You do not need to show up with a perfect baby.
You just need to show up.
I’ll take care of the rest.
If you’re looking for a newborn photographer in Plano or the Dallas area, I’d love to help you capture these first days exactly as they are because that’s the part you’ll want to remember someday.
