What to Wear Wednesday
Outfitting a Family of 5
.
What to wear for your upcoming photoshoot. It is the next biggest question (after what location to choose) that comes up. And probably the most important to you. And it should be! You see what you wear in your family photographs means a lot. I know you will want your images to look like you walked out of a catalog, or are the epitome of lifestyle relaxed. Whichever type of session you choose you want them to ‘look’ right.
Here are a few tips in choosing clothing!
.
1 – make sure it FITS.
I know my 11 year old grows out of clothes in about 3-4 months. So I try to buy some shirts a little bit bigger, not crazy baggy big but big enough to stretch for 6 months. But in photographs you will notice baggy. You will notice too small. Trust me. YOU WILL NOTICE. So make sure their clothes fit. Now with girls and dresses we can usually clamp them up a bit but try to get a good fit.
.
2 – make sure you like the colors
I go through phases. Right now I love all things woodsy, plaid, hispter-ish, and old fashiony (as my daughter says). So I always have to really like the colors that I picked. So for our family photos this year don’t be surprised if we are in yellows and navy blues with some other great colors like maroon. They are really stuck in my mind right now.
.
3 – make sure they are IRONED.
I can not photoshop out wrinkles. The end.
.
4 – Stay away from words.
patterns are fine, as long as there are no competing patterns. Colors are great! but words are distracting. Unless you want them to be distracting!

So I asked on my facebook page if anyone wanted to see if I could put an outfit together for them for a budget. I hear people comment on how it must have cost a fortune to get clothing for a photoshoot. Well, here is a family of 5 that wanted to spend less than $100.
Now I did take some liberties. I figure they all have shoes and probably have shoes to match the outfits. And I would guess to say that Dad has jeans. Or pants. And they pretty much go with everything. So with that being said, this is what I would choose.
Like I said I am really into maroons, purples, navys, greys… So yes all except mom’s outfits are from Old Navy, which over $50 includes free shipping. Mom’s is from ThredUp. (I have gotten some awesome stuff from there!)

.
So the only thing not accounted for is shipping from Thred Up.
